In November 1965, Alitalia had flights to Buenos Aires, Caracas, Montevideo, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and Santiago de Chile, with respect to South American cities. All operations were carried out in McDonnell Douglas DC-8s, which departed from and arrived in Milan and Rome.
Each country was served twice a week by the Italian airline. Flights to Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina and Chile were part of the same route with a stopover in Dakar, while Caracas had a stopover in Lisbon.

Alitalia ceased operations on October 14th, 2021, with its replacement, ITA Airways, starting the following day.
Considering March 2020, prior to the suspensions due to the pandemic, Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and Santiago de Chile were Alitalia’s South American destinations. Currently, the Argentine capital and Guarulhos airport are part of ITA’s network.
