Norwegian Air Shuttle, Scandinavia’s largest low-cost carrier (LCC), has launched ticket sales for the European Summer season of 2024. The peak season for travel in the continent runs from March to October, and for the period, the airline has announced three new routes.
The new routes will connect Tromsø, in the North of Norway, to Berlin, Milano/Bergamo and Paris/Charles de Gaulle. Tickets are already on sale in Norwegian’s sales channels, with flights starting on January 15, 2024. The airline said, in a press release, that further new routes are expected to be launched for Summer 2024 as the Autumn progresses.
“We are very pleased with the summer season of 2023. High demand for air travel will make it one of the best in our history», stated Magnus Maursund, Norwegian’s Chief Commercial Officer, in the press release. «Next summer, more aircraft will be added to our fleet, meaning that we can launch new routes and add frequencies to our existing route network. We offer a combination of destinations that are attractive to both business and leisure travellers».
By Summer 2024, the airline said, services in its main markets should translate into 150 routes from Norway, 64 from Denmark, 54 from Sweden and 21 from Finland. The airline also has three bases in Alicante, Barcelona and Málaga in Spain, with a fourth, in Palma de Mallorca, joining by next Summer (the four bases are focused on serving Scandinavian markets).
A base in Riga was originally announced in 2022 as to be opened this Summer, has not yet been confirmed. In May, Norwegian’s Vice-President for Communications, Grete Kruse Roald, said the opening was postponed to 2024, ch-aviation reported.
Norwegian Air Shuttle expects to operate during Summer 2024 with a fleet of 90 aircraft, all of which are of the Boeing 737 family. According to Cirium’s Fleets Analyzer tool, the group’s airlines currently operate a total of 84 aircraft, of which 68 are 737-800s and 16 are 737 MAX 8.
