The Spanish low-cost carrier is adjusting what will be its schedule for the northern summer season, and although, as we reported in a previous article, more than thirty new routes have been launched, there will also be readjustments in other sectors, such as in Genoa (GOA), Italy, whose base will be closed after five years in operation.

The company had 50 employees at the Italian airport, who have been offered to be relocated to other company bases. Volotea said in a statement that the effects of the pandemic damaged the base, in a scenario in which it is necessary to rearrange its network of destinations.
«Unfortunately, the current pandemic situation, in a constantly evolving context, forces us to reorganize our network. We reconfirm our proximity to the city of Genoa where we have more than 220,000 seats on sale for the coming months. All our staff working at the airport were offered the opportunity to find employment at one of our other bases, and support was given for any possible move,» says a note from the airline.

Despite the closure, it will maintain some destinations through other bases owned by the company. For the coming summer season, it plans to operate from Genoa to Alghero, Cagliari, Catania, Naples, Olbia in Italy; Paris/Charles de Gaulle in France and Athens in Greece.
That is, due to the closure of the base, it loses the connections to Brindisi, Lamezia Terme, Lampedusa, Palermo, and Pantelleria in Italy; Ibiza, Madrid, Malaga, Menorca and Palma de Mallorca in Spain; Malta and Mykonos, Kerkyra and Thira in Greece.
