GE Aerospace to Supply 210 T700 Engines for Poland's AH-64E Apache Helicopters
GE Aerospace will supply 210 T700 engines for the Polish Armed Forces' 96 Apache attack helicopters.
GE Aerospace received an order for 210 T700 engines to power the Polish Armed Forces' 96 Boeing AH-64E Apache Guardian helicopters.
The engine order follows a cooperation agreement signed in August 2024 between GE Aerospace and the Polish Ministry of National Defense. Under the agreement, Military Aviation Works in Deblin (WZL-1) will provide MRO support under license for T700 engines for Apache, as well as Sikorsky S-70i Black Hawk, and CT7 engines for Leonardo AW149 and AW101 helicopters that are part of the Polish Armed Forces' fleet of aircraft. The Warsaw Military University of Technology (WAT) will provide training, including T700/CT7 engine training, for Polish technicians, military personnel and WZL-1 employees who will support the helicopter fleet, as well as training for future engineering personnel of the Polish Armed Forces.
“This T700 engine is the engine of choice for medium-sized helicopters with its exceptional performance, reliability, and durability,” said Amy Gowder, President and CEO of Defense & Systems at GE Aerospace. “This order strengthens our relationship with Poland and expands the Polish Armed Forces’ GE Aerospace-powered fleet, which includes F404-powered FA-50 fighter jets, T700-powered Sikorsky S-70i Black Hawks, and CT7-powered Leonardo AW149 and AW101 helicopters.”
The collaboration agreement between GE Aerospace, WZL-1 and WAT will ensure the preservation of highly skilled jobs in Poland, as well as open up new technology areas in engine maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), as well as training and technical assistance for the defense industry. This effort will help Polish industry to provide continuous support to the Polish Armed Forces in the maintenance of its Apache helicopter fleet. Thanks to this agreement, the Polish Ministry of National Defense will have a complete engine storage center and advanced technical training capabilities, ensuring autonomy in the maintenance of platforms powered by the T700/CT7 engines. In addition, this collaboration lays the groundwork for future partnerships with GE Aerospace in the field of combat engines, including F110, F414 and F404 models, consolidating Poland's role as a key player in the European defense infrastructure.
The T700/CT7 turboshaft and turboprop engines are fundamental to more than 15 types of military and civil helicopters and aircraft, with more than 130 customers in over 50 countries. Since its introduction, more than 25,000 units of the T700/CT7 family have been delivered, accumulating more than 130 million flight hours. This design has demonstrated outstanding reliability in the most challenging environments, with millions of flight hours in high-temperature combat zones such as Iraq and Afghanistan. In Europe, more than 1,300 T700/CT7 engines have been delivered or are in the process of being delivered to 20 military and paramilitary customers, consolidating its presence and reliability on the continent.
In addition to the 96 AH-64E Apache Guardian helicopters and their engines, the package offered to Poland includes a wide range of guided weaponry.
The engines will be manufactured and delivered under a contract with the U.S. Army through the U.S. government's Foreign Military Sales (FMS) process.
