Delta and Thales Unveil Next-Generation Cloud-Based Inflight Entertainment System
Delta Air Lines and Thales have announced the launch of Delta Sync, a next-generation inflight entertainment (IFE) system powered by FlytEDGE technology. Presented at CES 2025 during Delta’s centennial celebration, the system is described by Thales as the first fully cloud-native IFE platform, designed to elevate the passenger experience.
The FlytEDGE system features cutting-edge hardware and software, including 4K QLED HDR displays capable of rendering over one billion colors, Bluetooth connectivity for wireless devices, and an onboard data center with 96TB of storage. These technologies enable high-quality content delivery and instant streaming for passengers.
According to Delta, the system includes a recommendation engine that customizes content based on passenger preferences. It also offers tools such as a seatback announcement translator, allowing critical flight information to be displayed in multiple languages, enhancing accessibility for passengers with hearing impairments.
New Features and Future Enhancements
Among its standout features, the system integrates an "Arrival Mode" that syncs with Delta’s Fly Delta app to provide essential travel details, such as connecting flight information or ground transportation options. Additionally, passengers can activate a “Do Not Disturb” mode, granting them greater control over their onboard experience.
Future enhancements planned by Delta and Thales include guided wellness features and expanded customization options for inflight dining, aiming to create an even more personalized journey.
Thales highlights that FlytEDGE allows real-time updates to both the interface and content, which can be deployed fleet-wide or to specific aircraft as needed. Its cloud-based architecture supports seamless integration with digital partners, enabling airlines to quickly implement new services.
“FlytEDGE offers advanced capabilities that provide airlines with endless opportunities to create memorable and personalized journeys, fully integrated with their CRM and ground-based services,” said Yannick Assouad, Executive Vice-President of Avionics at Thales.
Ranjan Goswami, Delta’s Senior Vice President of Customer Experience Design, emphasized the airline’s commitment to staying ahead of passenger expectations. “Our customers expect an intuitive, contextual, and seamless travel experience that supports and guides them with confidence. Delta is committed to continuously evolving our industry-leading digital experiences.”
