While the commercial aviation industry awaits the imminent publication of a decree that could allow the return of regular domestic and international flights in Argentina, statements made by high-ranking officials are the only signals that are sent regarding this possibility.

Last Monday Mario Meoni, Minister of Transport, said that flights would return on October 12 or 15, and today he was joined by the Minister of Tourism, Matías Lammens, who during a press conference that took place this Thursday assured that in the new phase of the so-called ASPO (Social, Preventive and Obligatory Isolation) that will begin this Monday, October 12, regular operations will be enabled again.

In line with what was expressed by Meoni, the Minister of Tourism said that flights could be allowed for «essential workers» and for family reunification.

But he also clarified that, even though authorization begins to take effect from Monday, the activity would begin to normalize a week later.

Aerolineas Argentinas had also stated today that their regular operations would be scheduled from October 19.

Another important point was that of the governors’ predisposition to receive flights or not, on which they would have reached an agreement to accept them.

In any case, the companies take this information with caution, and until they see the first plane taking off they do not dare to give anything for certain.
