Aeropuertos Argentina opens registration for 5th edition of WIATT scholarship to promote women in aviation
Aeropuertos Argentina has announced the opening of registrations for the fifth edition of the WIATT Scholarship (Women in Aviation, Travel & Tourism), an initiative aimed at encouraging female participation in the aviation industry through access to university studies in engineering.
The scholarship will cover 100% of the Engineering degree at Universidad Austral and is open to female students currently in their final year of high school anywhere in the country. Interested applicants can apply until June 2 through the official program website: https://wiatt.aeropuertosargentina.com/Austral/.
Verónica Rodríguez Bargiela, Director of Human Resources at Aeropuertos Argentina, stated, "We are proud to share the fifth edition of the WIATT scholarship program, which began in 2019 with the goal of advancing women’s careers in the industry and creating a more inclusive and equitable workplace." She also noted that the project is the result of collaboration with Universidad Austral and Universidad de San Andrés, and that more than 200 scholarships have already been awarded to women in the sector.
The scholarship is part of a broader program promoted by Corporación América Airports, parent company of Aeropuertos Argentina, and has been implemented in other countries such as Brazil, Uruguay, Armenia, Ecuador, and Italy. In total, 295 scholarships have been awarded to women involved in the industry.
The program’s objectives include highlighting the role of women in a traditionally male-dominated field, encouraging interest in engineering among teenage girls, and promoting interdisciplinary work guided by high school teachers.
Key dates in the process include the delivery of a case study for individual resolution during the week of June 2, notification of selected candidates in the week of July 7, and the evaluation stage during the week of August 4.
The WIATT program was launched in 2019 with the support of the World Economic Forum and ACI World, and has since expanded to include initiatives such as MBA and postgraduate scholarships, the “General Manager for a Day” program, and activities focused on diversity and gender in the aviation industry.
