Valencia Airport expands fleet with new fire trucks and “follow me” vehicles
Valencia Airport has increased its operational and safety capacity with the addition of three new fire trucks and two aircraft guidance vehicles, known as “follow me” cars. These enhancements support the Rescue and Firefighting Service (SSEI) and Airside Operations Technicians.
The fleet of fire trucks now includes five units, replacing two older models. The new Iveco Magirus Dragon X6 trucks are equipped for firefighting and rescue, featuring battery-powered tools that offer greater autonomy and mobility during emergencies.
Each truck has two Cursor 13 engines with a combined 1,120 horsepower, enabling acceleration from 0 to 80 km/h in 20 seconds. The top speed is limited to 115 km/h. The trucks also provide strong off-road performance, including stability on curves and steep approach angles.
The two new Peugeot Rifter vehicles increase the “follow me” fleet to eight. They include communication systems for coordination with the control tower and are equipped for aircraft guidance, infrastructure checks, and airfield safety monitoring.
Aena states that these additions will improve operational safety and response efficiency at the airport.
