United Airlines for the winter boreal season 2022/2023 will have the largest offer in the South Pacific in its history. According to data obtained by Aviacionline through Cirium, the Chicago-based carrier will have a supply of 25,983 seats per week in 95 air operations: a 14% increase over pre-pandemic levels.

For the time being, the U.S. carrier will be the main operator between North America and the South Pacific, surpassing market-leading carrier Qantas for the first time. United plans to offer 50 flights from the United States to Australia, New Zealand and Tahiti.

The company will increase its Melbourne (MEL) – San Francisco (SFO) service to daily flights starting October 30, and on the same date will restart operations on the Los Angeles (LAX) – Melbourne (MEL) and Houston (IAH) – Sydney (SYD) routes, both with three weekly flights, which will be increased to daily flights after a few weeks.

According to data obtained by Aviacioline through the Department of Infrastructure, Transportation, Cities and Regional Development prior to the pandemic, United moved 523,443 passengers and 18,132 tons of cargo between the United States and Australia and was the second largest airline operator in this market, surpassed only by Qantas.

United continues to grow in the South Pacific, the airline has a transpacific Joint Venture with Air New Zealand, currently its partner is rebuilding its entire network of destinations in the United States. It recently partnered with Virgin Australia where they entered into a codeshare agreement, strengthening both carriers’ operations between the South Pacific and North America.

All United flights in Australia, New Zealand and Tahiti will have Polaris Business Class, Premium Plus, Economy Plus and Economy seats, reinforcing the company’s premium offering in this region. From its main transpacific hub in San Francisco (SFO), it will be the only airline to offer non-stop flights to Australia’s three major cities.
