On July 19, Iberojet inaugurated its charter flights between Porto (OPO) and Punta Cana (PUJ), the first operation of the company at Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport. With this new route, the airline aims to diversify the Portuguese market and offer services out of Lisbon (LIS).
Flight OBS 853 was operated in an Airbus A330neo registered with registration CS-TKH and had a duration of 7 hours and 37 minutes: the aircraft took off from Porto (OPO) at 16:22 local time and landed at Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) at 18:59. The Ávoris airline will compete with World2fly in this market.
The first flight took off with a 100% load factor and the expected occupancy of this route in the remaining months will be 90%, a figure that indicates the good reception of this new non-stop service.
This new connection is part of a new flight program launched by Iberojet for the summer, one of the most ambitious in the company’s history, given the number of weekly flights and destinations offered at the level of both Spain and Portugal.
Iberojet also offers non-stop services from Lisbon (LIS) to several Caribbean destinations including Cancun (CUN), Punta Cana (PUJ) and Varadero (VRA). Each route operates one weekly frequency on Airbus A330-900neo aircraft with a capacity of 388 passengers.
«This new Porto-Punta Cana flight is part of the business strategy that Iberojet has been implementing for years to continue its commitment to flights from Portugal to the Caribbean. With this new route Iberojet offers a unique opportunity to enjoy a direct flight without having to travel to the capital, which is where most long-haul flights depart from,» said Javier Castillo, general manager of Ávoris in Portugal.
Data compiled by Aviacionline through The Civil Aviation Board (JAC) indicate that 42,471 passengers have been mobilized between Portugal and the Dominican Republic from January to May 2022.
Iberojet is the third largest airline operator with the largest capacity in this market with a 19.04% share for this summer: the airline this year has moved 5,116 passengers between the Caribbean nation and the Portuguese country.
