During June, the 48 airports that make up Aena’s network in Spain handled 9,266,794 passengers, a figure 66% lower than the same month in 2019 (comparisons are not made with 2020), although 57% more than in May as a consequence of the boreal summer season and the relaxation of restrictions on the transit of people in Europe.
Aircraft movement fell 41%, reaching 133,331 operations, while 78,413 tons of cargo were transported, 1.4% more than in June 2019, which marks the first growth in this indicator since February 2020.
Of the total passengers in June 2021, 9,215,536 correspond to commercial passengers, and of these, 4,452,977 were from the international segment (-76.9% versus June 2019) and 4,762,559 from the domestic segment (-40% ), marking a recovery of more than 60% compared to 2019 levels, which has not been observed since August 2020.
Thus, in the first six months of the year, 27,072,731 passengers have been mobilized, representing a recovery of 21.2% compared to the same period in 2019.
«The Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport registered the highest number of passengers in the sixth month of the year with 1,702,076, which represents a decrease of 69.4% compared to June 2019. Palma de Mallorca follows, with 1,408 .600 (-63.4%); Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with 1,374,717 (-73.1%); Malaga-Costa del Sol, with 645,820 (-68.6%); Ibiza, with 517,556 ( -56.1%); Gran Canaria, with 472,590 (-51.8%); Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, with 405,799 (-73.6%) and Tenerife North-City of La Laguna, with 339,160 (-33, 9%),» they detailed from Aena.

The airport that registered the highest number of movements in June was Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, with a total of 17,568 and a fall of 53.7% compared to June 2019; followed by Palma de Mallorca, with 13,662 flights (-48.2%); Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with 13,359 (-58.4% ); Malaga-Costa del Sol, with 7,912 (-45.4%); Ibiza, with 6,825 (-34.6%); Gran Canaria, with 6,381 (-32.6%); Tenerife North-City of La Laguna , with 4,946 (-21.6%); and Valencia, with 4,316 (-37.6%),» they continued.
The four airports that registered the highest cargo traffic were Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, with 42,233 tons and 4.5% less than in 2019; Zaragoza, with 12,619 tons (+ 69.9%); Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with 11,046 tons (-18.1%), and Vitoria, 6,336 tons (+ 17%).
