Abelo converts ATR order, adds three ATR 72-600 aircraft to fleet
Abelo has reshaped its fleet strategy by converting its initial order of ATR 42 STOL aircraft into a mix of ATR 42-600s and ATR 72-600s, while adding three additional ATR 72-600s. With deliveries extending through 2029, the company aims to meet the growing demand for sustainable regional connectivity and modern turboprop solutions
Abelo, a company specializing in aircraft leasing, has converted its initial order of 10 ATR 42 STOL (short take-off and landing) aircraft into a mix of five ATR 42-600s and five ATR 72-600s. The company also confirmed the purchase of three additional ATR 72-600s.
According to ATR, this strategic decision reflects growing demand in the regional aviation market for 50-seat turboprop aircraft. Abelo aims to help regional operators modernize their fleets, including those already among its clients.
ATR noted that the three additional ATR 72-600s result from the conversion of options finalized during the Dubai Airshow in 2023.
Stephen Gorman, Abelo's CEO, commented, “Abelo remains committed to sustainable regional connectivity, promoting turboprops as a low-emission solution. Expanding our fleet with the ATR 42-600 and 72-600, along with the addition of three new ATR 72-600s, allows us to offer our customers superior performance, reduced emissions, and greater passenger comfort.”
Nathalie Tarnaud Laude, ATR’s CEO, highlighted, “This fleet expansion reinforces the long-term partnership between ATR and Abelo and supports our shared vision of enhancing regional connectivity. The additional aircraft will enable Abelo to meet demand effectively while driving the transition towards greener aviation.”
Scheduled for delivery through 2029, the expanded fleet will position Abelo to address market needs sustainably. ATR expects to announce more orders in the coming weeks as part of its 2024 annual results.
