The Aztec country is PHX’s main international market, where business, leisure and VFR (visiting friends and/or family) passenger traffic is generated.
As we previewed, Phoenix – Sky Harbor Airport (PHX) will have nonstop service to Monterrey (MTY) with five weekly flights operated by American Airlines starting January 10, 2023, the last connection between the two cities was in 2004.
«Mexico is Phoenix’s number one trade and tourism partner, making air service to Monterrey increasingly important to our local economy,» said Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego.
«As American Airlines expands its international service, Phoenix benefits from increased connectivity to emerging global markets and sought-after leisure destinations,» Gallego added.
American Airlines is the leading carrier in the segment between Phoenix – Sky Harbor (PHX) and Mexico with a 67.9% market share, then followed by Southwest Airlines with 24.4% and Volaris with 7.7%. The Dallas-based airline will offer 13 nonstop flights between PHX and the Aztec country this winter, a 44% increase in Mexican destinations served compared to 2019.
