$2.4 million to be invested in new fiber optic network at Lima’s Jorge Chávez Airport
Peru’s airport authority CORPAC will begin installing a new single-mode fiber optic network at Jorge Chávez International Airport in June, aiming to connect all aviation and electronic systems at the facility. The infrastructure will span 120 kilometers and represents a $2.4 million investment, according to the agency.
The project, managed through the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), includes a dual-circuit design: a primary line and a backup line, which will ensure continuous operations in case of system failures. The network will link the new control tower, the new passenger terminal, and the radar control center, which oversees air traffic throughout the country.
CORPAC highlights that the single-mode fiber optic technology will provide high-speed data transmission, lower latency, and greater resistance to electromagnetic interference. The system will support real-time data flow and simultaneous connectivity without congestion or data loss.
Installation is scheduled to take place from June to December this year and will not disrupt air traffic control services. The replacement of the current system, in operation for the past 15 years, will utilize existing underground ducts along with new conduits in the areas of the new terminal and runway.
